Biographical Sketch
Ramon P. DeGennaro is the CBA Professor in Banking and Finance at the University of Tennessee. He also conducts research as a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He previously served as the Tennessee Bankers Association Scholar and as a William B. Stokely Scholar at Tennessee. Before joining the university, he was a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, and he also served as the Reading Specialist at Mayfield High School in Mayfield, Ohio. His current research involves financial markets, entrepreneurship, investments, prediction markets. Professor DeGennaro has published more than thirty-five refereed articles on financial market volatility, the term structure of interest rates, financial institutions, prediction markets, and investments. His articles have appeared or are forthcoming in the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Financial Services Research, Financial Management, The Financial Review, Managerial and Decision Economics, The Economic Review, The Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Journal of Economics and Finance, Applied Economics Letters, The International Journal of Finance, The Review of Black Political Economy, The Journal of Sports Economics, The International Journal of Business, Pensions, Journal of Wealth Management, The Journal of Financial Transformation, Journal of Structured Finance, Journal of Gambling Business and Economics, and The Journal of Portfolio Management. His other publications include research reports, book chapters, book reviews and several Federal Reserve publications. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Business and the Journal of Private Enterprise. His paper with Thomas P. Boehm was recently honored as the Best Empirical Paper at the 2007 meetings of the Southern Finance Association.
According to the supplementary tables to an article in Financial Management, Professor DeGennaro is the Finance Department's highest ranked researcher.
Professor DeGennaro has served as Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, for the American Institute for Economic Research, and has presented original research at dozens of professional conferences in North America and abroad. He has also served on the Program Committees of several professional organizations. He is the recipient of five Scholarly Research Grant Program Awards, The Greene County Bank Summer Faculty Research Award, seven Finance Department Summer Faculty Research Awards, a Haslam Endowment Award, five University of Tennessee Professional Development Awards, five University of Tennessee Scholarly Activities Research Incentive Fund Awards, an Olsen & Associates Research Grant, three Ball Corporation Awards, two University of Tennessee College of Business Research Grants, a University of Tennessee Practitioner-Research-on-Teaching Award, a Teaching with Technology Grant, and several Exhibit, Performance, and Publication Expense Awards. He has been nominated for the Allen H. Keally Outstanding Teaching Award, the John B. Ross Outstanding Teaching Award (three times), and the College of Business Outstanding Teaching Award. Professor DeGennaro also consults in the areas of business valuation, investments, and financial management. He holds a Ph.D. in finance from the Ohio State University.
